Beginner Belt Ranks (10th gup through 8th gup

White Belt 10th Gup

Yellow Belt (One Stripe) 9th Gup

  • 6 stances, walking and fighting stance
  • 1-7 basic fundamentals
  • One Step Spar #1-5
  • Min 2 months training, permission of instructor

Gold Belt (Two Stripes) 8th Gup

  • 8-11 Basic fundamentals
  • Inside block – walking stance and T-Stance
  • Hammer Block, walking, square and T-Stance
  • One Step Spar #6-10
  • Form – Taeguek II Chong
  • Min 2 months training since yellow belt, permission of instructor

Student Belt Ranks (7th Gup through 1st Gup)

Orange Belt (Three Stripes) 7th Gup

  • 2-15 Basic Fundamentals
  • One Step Spar #1-15 plus advanced
  • Free Sparing
  • Form – Taegeuk Ee Chong
  • Breaking – Front snap kick
  • Min 2 months training since gold belt, permission of instructor

Intermediate Belt Ranks (6th Gup through 4th Gup)

Green Belt (Four Stripes) 6th Gup

  • All basic fundamentals, including #16-28
  • One Step Spar:  #1-20
  • Free sparing
  • Form – Taeguek II Chong, Ee Chong, Taegeuk Som Chong
  • Breaking – Step behind side kick
  • Min 2 months training since orange belt, permission of instructor

Purple Belt (Five Stripes) 5th Gup

  • All basic fundamentals, including #16-28, pivot, shuffle jumps, and flying kicks
  • One Step Spar 1-20 Right Side, 21-40 Left Side, & 10 creative one steps advanced
  • Free Sparing
  • Form – Taegeuk Sa Chang and all previous forms
  • Breaking Ax Kick
  • Min 2 months training since green belt, permission of instructor

Blue Belt (Six Stripes) 4th Gup

  • All basic fundamentals
  • One Step Spar: 1-40 and Advanced
  • Free sparing
  • Form – All previous forms, Taegeuk Oh Chong
  • Breaking – Jump front kick
  • Min 2 months training since purple belt, permission of instructor

Advance Belt Ranks (3rd Gup through 1st Gup)

Red Belt (Seven Stripes) 3rd Gup

  • All basic fundamentals
  • One Step Spar: 40 plus Advanced
  • Self Defense
  • Free spar
  • Form – All previous forms, Taegeuk Yuk Chong
  • Breaking – instructor’s choice
  • Min two months training since blue belt, permission of instructor

Brown Belt (Eight Stripes) 2nd Gup

  • All basic fundamentals
  • One Step Spar: 1-40 Advanced, takedowns
  • Self defense
  • Free sparing
  • Form – All previous forms, Taegeuk Chil Chong
  • Breaking – instructor’s choice
  • Min three months training since red belt, permission of instructor

Brown Belt (Black Stripe) 1st Gup

  • All fundamentals
  • One Step Spar: high precision, controlled contact
  • Self defense
  • Free sparing, One on One and Two on One
  • Form – All previous forms, Taegeuk Pil Chong, permission of instructor
  • Breaking – instructor’s choice
  • Portfolio
  • Min four months training since brown belt

**Note:  the final result of this 1st Gup examination will determine the time period (normally 3 to 9 months) before you will test for the black belt.
